Grass Valley native Mellissa Jarrette has spent more than 40 years developing her artistic voice through acrylic painting, watercolor, and expressive mixed-media work. Her portfolio ranges from large-scale murals for renowned resorts to intimate portraits of professional athletes, beloved pets, and deeply personal commissioned pieces. She is especially recognized for her bold acrylic wave paintings; immersive, movement-driven works inspired by the power, beauty, and emotional pull of water.

Originally rooted in graphite and charcoal studies focused on shape, shadow, and value, Mellissa’s work evolved into a vibrant exploration of color, emotion, and movement. Drawn to expressive eyes, layered textures, and the balance between realism and abstraction, her paintings often reflect both the quiet and chaotic sides of human nature.

Mellissa briefly attended the Academy of Art University after building her artistic foundation through early education and studies at Sierra College in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Her artistic perspective has been deeply shaped by the places she has lived and traveled; from the snowy landscapes of North Lake Tahoe to the tropical coastlines of Kona and the vibrant cultures of the Cayman Islands, Belize, Nicaragua, and Mexico. Alongside these experiences, the rivers, forests, and mountain landscapes of her hometown continue to influence the energy and emotional depth within her work.
